This singular construction of keystones located at the mouth of the Cojimar river was created as an integral element of the defensive plan of Havana, with the function of protecting the east side of the bay against the disembarkation of corsairs and pirates through the flanks, looking out and link with other fortifications.
Typologically it matches a redoubt due to its square plan of 18 meters on its laterals and the lack of strongholds and lateral works of defense.
It develops 2 levels, with exterior staircase attached to the building. In the roof level, cylindrical gambling dens lean on a sequence of corbels that offer an attractive aspect to the end of the angles of this building.
