Address:Obrapía, Esq. San Ignacio, Habana Vieja
Construction date:17th Century Restoration:1985 Oscar Jaime Rodríguez |
Current use:
This house is considered one of the oldest in the city and constitutes one of the most significant examples of a time in which the defining elements of the Cuban houses were still under transformation.
Its most notable characteristic is the beautiful continuous balcony, corner that corresponds to the upper story with the tower or viewpoint. Under this, there is a small mezzanine that we don’t know if it belongs to the original work. If it were part of this, then it would be considered an early predecessor of what proliferated later in the 18th Century.
The courtyard that begins to gain marked dimensions in this kind of residence is located in the centre of the building, surrounded by a gallery supported in two of its sides by octagonal vertical props, and in the third one by three arcs supported by Tuscan columns.
The wood work of the roofs, as well as, that of the shapely balusters of the gate upstairs and the rails and doors offers an added value to this work.
