In this house lived the alderman of Havana don José Martín Félix de Arrate (1701-1764). He held this post as an heirloom through his mother doña Juana María Mateo de Acosta, who belonged to an old family traditionally linked to local government. This native of Havana has been remembered by posterity as the author of the work of Cuban history “Key to the New World. Frontispiece of the West Indies. A description of Havana.” This work was almost the only one known by the last quarter of the 17th century. It deals mainly on matters concerning Havana, its founding, growth and current state of affairs up to 1761.
Today this house is home to the Museum of Playing Cards.
