San Lazaro Turret

Address:

Malecón y Marina, Centro Habana

Construction date:

1665

Author:

Marcos Lucio, according to the historian Jacobo de La Pazuela

This building stands out its circular plan and its small dimensions; it was a watchtower within the defensive system of the city. Located in the old San Lazaro inlet, place where pirate’s landings took place, today, it is a picturesque element in the urban landscape being inside the Antonio Maceo park and being part of the buildings of Avenida del Malecon.

It is a compacted rough stone building with a small access door, loopholes in all its perimeter and battlements in its roof.
